Presidents Report
2022/2023 and 2023/2024 Seasons
Thank you for the opportunity to share a few words about the 2022/2023 Season at Wildcats Basketball Club. As the privileged custodian of the President position, I am pleased to be sharing my thoughts.
The Wildcats Basketball Club has always strongly emphasised the partnership with parents and the broader community to achieve the best possible growth for our players. Our parents have acknowledged this partnership's great importance and connection to the club. The 2022/2023 seasons were no different. After my induction as the new president, we implemented initiatives to move the club forward into the 21st Century. A new website is in development, new uniforms are being designed and a new Logo has been launched. We have updated our Technology usage to include cashless payments, more streamlined interactions with families regarding fee/registration payments and more instant communications with families and players.
Our relationship with Eastwood Leisure Centre has continued to be a blessing. A huge thanks must go to Marita for her patience and understanding as I (Garth) learned the ropes, tested the boundaries and made mistakes. With improvements to ELC in the not-to-distant future the club and committee have appreciated the permission we have been given to make appropriate alterations to the Basketball court and adjoining spaces to make a safe and welcoming place for players, families and the committee. We will continue to make adjustments as the 2023/24 seasons commence.
Success and flourishing at Wildcats begin with belonging and relationships. Players and families learn to work hard with specific attention to skill development and teamwork. With improvement and joy as our overarching goals, the club recognises that achievement comes from effort not just the collection of flags and medals. While becoming Grand final winners is exciting and needs to be celebrated with pride, equally celebrating success and improving as well-rounded basketballers is important.
During the 2022/2023 season, we were able to have success across all age groups with multiple Grand final winners and an increase in participation numbers across the club. With 52 teams in the 22/23 Summer season to 60 teams in the 23/24 Summer Season. (470 – 520 players)
Special thanks must go to the Wildcats committee members who continue to put the child at the centre of all that they do. They work tirelessly to ensure everyone feels welcomed and valued. We look forward to the next stages in our journey at Wildcats.
Kind regards,
Garth Kydd
Wildcats President
